Various forums have come into being for the purpose of facilitating communication between students and would–be college students. For the information relating to courses and programs offered by different institutions, about their extra curricular activities, sporting as well as social, college boards come into being. These often offer free and/or subscription based answers and explanations for various questions related to academics that students invariably face. Practice questions are offered test dates are announced, credit and placement policies are clarified, and solutions to such practical problems facing students on a routine basis are offered.

In order to make these College Boards more user friendly some college humor for the amusement of the users may also be offered. These boards then become a source of information for college activities, upcoming programs relating to the curriculum or of an extra curricular nature. Then inevitably, the social connotations of such a forum come into play and the board can act as a buddy finder for long lost friends and classmates and long forgotten acquaintances.

A college board is a tool for the utilization of students interested in college search. What colleges offer what degree course or diploma program or what requirements and/or qualifications are required for this would be the kind of information posted for the easy access of students. In the event, a less formal route for the exchange of such student related information would be chatrooms which everyone is familiar with and has access to. Such chatrooms may in fact be an offshoot of the main board.

The board therefore may provide serious information on college search, combine the social functions of buddy finder and provide college humor all at the same time.
